Hello, I’m Sarah, a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and creator of The CBT Journal.
I believe the most important relationship you’ll ever have is with yourself. Learning to understand your mind and change unhelpful patterns of thinking is one of the best things you can do to improve your mental health and wellbeing. With the right knowledge and tools, you can experience a happier life with less stress, anxiety and overwhelm.
As an experienced Therapist, I can help you develop the coping strategies you need to reduce psychological distress and difficulty. I can also show you how to cultivate more emotional resilience, so no matter what life throws at you, you’ll be able to bounce back.
Our minds are our most important asset. We need to value and care for them like any other part of the body.
I work with people who are experiencing psychological distress for a variety of reasons, people who want to understand where they are, why and how to move forward.
Common problems I help people with are anxiety, panic, overthinking & worry, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress
If you are motivated and determined to develop an understanding of the patterns you are in, then I can help you build the coping strategies you will need to reduce your distress and psychological difficulty so that you can move forward with your life, make changes for life and maximise your potential.
I create powerful mental health tools and resources designed to help people help themselves.
In many ways, mental health is just like physical health – everybody has it and we need to take care of it. With an emphasis on journaling, I’m passionate about sharing useful information and advice so people can learn how their mind works, improve their mental health and manage symptoms of psychological distress should they arise.

At the core of everything I do is an overwhelming desire to help people reach their full potential by becoming the best version of themselves.
I have 20 years’ experience in the field of mental health. My nursing career started in hospital and community settings in the mid-1990s. I believe mental health nursing provided me with an excellent foundation for the delivery of effective CBT therapy.
I have always maintained my status as a Registered Mental Health Nurse. This reassures clients that I adhere to a professional code of conduct by practising safe and effective therapy to a high standard.
I began my therapeutic professional studies with a BSc degree in Psychological Interventions. This gave me valuable skills and a great depth of knowledge of CBT and other therapies before focusing my attention on training specifically as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
It was my drive for finding the best techniques and innovations for people which led me to qualify in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2011. CBT has the best evidence base for its effectiveness in a range of psychological problems.
Over recent years I have also trained with Professor Paul Gilbert who works in Derby University and has developed Compassion Focused Therapy or CFT. CFT was developed by Paul for people who struggle with high levels of shame and criticism, Compassion Focused Therapy along with mindfulness is classed as a third wave psychological therapy which enhances CBT and also has outstanding results in improving peoples mental health, you will see this training incorporated into therapy practice and writing.
My experience combines medical knowledge with academic qualifications and ongoing training in Psychology a therapist studying is never done because the field of mental health is constantly improving and growing.
Who I Am
I live in the north of England with my partner and our two little dogs, Frank and Doris. I love self-help books, podcasts, hot yoga and lazy holidays in the sun. I’m fascinated by nutrition and its role in a whole-body approach to mental health. Did you know 90% of serotonin (aka ‘the happy hormone') is made in the gut?
As a registered mental health nurse, I spent 15 years working for the NHS in almost every area of mental health care. I assumed I’d found a career for life, but over time I realised I wanted to help people in a more impactful way. I wanted to be part of making mental health modern. For me, this means improving accessibility, increasing choice and reducing stigma. These values are woven into my private practice and resonate throughout everything I do.
Whether you’re seeking face-to-face therapy or downloading a digital resource, the decision to work with me should feel like coming home. If you’re ready to take the first step towards improving your mental health, you’ve found an inclusive space where you’ll be safe and supported.
I don’t need to fix you because you’re not broken. Your mind is complex and sometimes it needs a little extra care and attention.
